Several reviewers have describe the hotel as 'tired'. Actually, it has a degree of older dignity. Not fancy, but very comfortable. What really made the difference, and would absolutely make me choose this for our next trip to East Lothian, was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. One of us has food intolerances, and the staff could not have been more on the ball (one minor exception below). We ate at the hotel both evenings, and the dinners were excellent, with sensible portion sizes. Good home made soups to start, well cooked fish, great accompaniments. Mostly though, and I'll say it again, a shout out for the lovely staff. They made us feel very welcome and could not have been more helpfiul and accomodating.

It is an old big house. The twins room is a basic one with kettle and instant coffee and sugar. It has a bath tube and electric shower. Nothing special. Breakfast included in the price, we had other expectations but is a menu with same full english breakfast, small portions, some jam, toast, milk and coffee. No variations from it. So for a long stay it will be boring. The beds were comfy, we had a good sleep. Bear in mind the house is 25 minutes maybe more away from Edinburgh. But is a nice and quite place for a couple of nights. As for the price, because it is convenient near the Scotland capital, in very busy summer season, it is quite high. Haddington is a small town, nothing much to do, just walk around.

Room (I think it was 14?) was nice, although tv perhaps a bit small by modern standards. Good lighting for reading in bed - thankyou! Public rooms and front gardens very nice; the website showed more extensive grounds behind the hotel, but we had an evening commitment and a fairly early departure, so didn't get to look! Breakfast was fine and nicely served at table by friendly staff. Haddington is a nice small town with clearly a lot of history around the town and general region. I would like to come back to this area at some point, and this feels like a good base.

All the staff at the Maitlandfield were exceptional. Matthew in particular, he made sure that we (and extra family!) Had enough space to enjoy ourselves in our own bar area to enjoy after a Christmas meal. This made our weekend and we will definitely be returning on our next trip to Haddington. Also, it's great that it's dog friendly, it doesn't just accept dogs, the maitlandfield made sure that our dogs had a warm welcome, too. Finally, the room and beds were lovely. Very comfortable and slept wonderfully while staying.

Went with my daughter for a revisit to Haddington. Used to live there years ago. So we know the area and other pubs and restaurants really well. Didn’t eat here other than breakfast, but the breakfast was lovely. The room we had was lovely and comfortable. Big room. Lovely bathroom, lovely bedding and towels. Hotel was quiet being February, but the welcome was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff there and we are going to come back again with friends for our next trip.
